Welcome to this section looking at the flagship BBC channel , BBC Two.
BBC Two launched as BBC 1 on the 21st April 1964 as a new sister channel to BBC 1 (which until this point had been the BBC Television Service). The new channel would be different to the mainstream approach taken on BBC 1, it was also broadcast differently as it was transmitted using the 625 line UHF service which gave a better quality image than the 405 line service on the other side.
The channel was the second BBC channel, however it would be the first for many things including the first UK channel to transmit a regular colour service from 1967, nearly two years before BBC 1 and ITV
