Welcome to our section looking at the idents and continuity on BBC 1 between 1964 until 1966
This was the first look for the newly formed channel, having previously been known as BBC TV (and the BBC Television Service before that).
This look for the new channel initially did not mention the name BBC 1 on screen, although it would often be referred to as that by the continuity announcer.
The BBC 1 globe was a mechanical model and was the first of the BBC 1 globes. Variants of the globe, initially mechanical models, then computer based and finally in air balloon format, would stick with the channel until 2002.
BBC 1 CONTINUITY – A WHOLE SCENE GOING (5th JANUARY 1966)
This continuity was for a teenage lifestyle programme called A Whole Scene Going which ran for a single series in 1966
